Pack the Plane Food Drive

Nov 2022 | Community Involvement, Credit Union News

Pack the Plane 2022 is underway!

We are excited to once again collect donations for Alaska Air Group’s 2022 Pack the Plane initiative.

When Alaska first started the holiday food drive in 2009, the idea was to fill an entire virtual plane based on the weight of food and what a plane could hold space-wise. This effort grew over time to eventually include partnerships with local food banks as well as online donations. Thanks to your recent generosity, over the past six years Alaska has raised nearly $765,000 and donated more than 47,000 pounds of canned goods to food banks across the country.

Last year, during the 13th annual “Pack the Plane” food drive, Alaska and Horizon employees packed the equivalent of more than 42 cargo planes. Working together, we raised more than $214,000 in financial donations and collected 3,400 pounds of canned goods for local food banks, providing almost one million meals to those facing food insecurities in the midst of a global pandemic.

This year, there are 43 stations/buildings participating and Alaska is supporting 21 food banks. The drive runs from Nov. 1 – 30th. Our goal? 35 planes! That means raising more than $175,000.

How to donate?

Bring in food or donate via cash or check in the Alaska Air Group Credit Union SeaTac or Anchorage branch.

Donations in SeaTac will support Northwest Harvest. Donations in Anchorage will support the Food Bank of Alaska.
