The 2019 holiday season is here and that means it’s time we join Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air in their 11th annual Pack the Plane Food Drive. We are proud to continue to participate in the longstanding company tradition to the Pack the Plane, supporting local food banks’ efforts to feed those in need throughout the holidays.
When Alaska started the holiday food drive in 2009, the goal was to fill an entire virtual plane based on the weight of food and what a plane could hold space-wise. The idea took off and stations around the country partnered with local food banks in subsequent years. Thanks to employee generosity, Alaska has nearly doubled their donations in the past five years by raising almost $100,000 and donating more than 9,400 pounds of canned goods for local food banks. In 2018 alone, Pack the Plane helped to provide almost a half-million meals to those in need by packing the equivalent of 20.25 cargo planes.
Through the month of November, employees and our members are invited to join in by donating online or bringing in canned goods to over 60 stations across the AAG network, including the credit union’s SeaTac or Anchorage branch.
All donations support a great cause by helping to feed more than 20 food banks throughout the communities Alaska/Horizon serves.
